--Scapes
This piece, like many of my artworks, was built through "conceptual blending"--a theory of cognition where in everyday thought and language, people connect ("blend") diverse scenarios in a subconscious process.
"Scape" can mean a scene, a stalk to a flower or a shaft to a column, antenna, or feather. "Scape" can also be defined as "escape or a means of escape" as in a fire escape, a scapegoat, or a scapegrace. The scenes of this piece refer to all of these.
Oil on windows (reverse painting on glass) with carving, handmade and found objects, collage, ribbon, carved and painted wood panels.
108" x 48".
